Seocho-gu used to be part of Gangnam-gu until the late eighties. Similarly to Gangnam, it underwent spectacular development in the last 4 decades and is currently one of the three most upscale residential districts in Seoul.
 
Seocho-gu. Population as of 1998: 405 thousand. Urbanized area: 20.3 square kilometers.
